Noodle Pack 3: Why does that box have holes in it?

[A doorbell brings Gumshoe to the front door. Opening it, he finds a mailman with a clipboard and a crate on a hand-truck beside him.]

"Er, yes, can I help you pal?"

[The mailman smiles and holds out the clipboard towards Gumshoe before speaking:]

"Package for Mr. Gumshoe. Need you to sign on the line there."

[Gumshoe scans the clipboard merely as a formality before signing it, after which the mailman gives thanks, slides the box off the hand-truck, and returns back to his truck to drive away. Gumshoe watches him leave before stepping out onto the porch to see what was just delivered. He's very wary of the box, as it has holes near the top and the words 'Live Animal' stenciled in red on the sides. Just as he takes a step closer, a thump from inside the box startles him and he freezes, waiting a few moments before taking the papers attached to the top of the box.]

"Let's see....  Live animal....  Classification: Dog...  Breed: Shiba Inu.... Name: Missile...  MISSILE! Hang on buddy! I'll get you out of there!"

[Gumshoe rushes inside to get a hammer or other tool to help open the crate and quickly returns, taking only a few moments before he finally gets the crate open. Once open, he bends down to greet his old pal as he calls into the crate.]

"Come on out, Missile! I don't know who mailed you here or why, but I'll get you some premium dog food or something to celebrate! It'll be nice to see a familiar faaaaaAAAAH!"

[The scream is because a sudden, furry blur shot out from the box, aimed directly at Gumshoe's head, knocking him on his back. With a hiss and some snarling, the blur scratches at his face before dashing off and up a nearby tree. Gumshoe catches his breath and stands up before he turns around to look at the tree. Upon on the higher branches he's sees the angriest cat he has ever laid eyes on in his life glaring back at him.]

"What the heck?! Is this some kind of prank?!"

[Gumshoe shuffles through the papers he was reading earlier to see if there's been some kind of terrible mistake.]

"....blah blah blah....  Ah, here we go. If there seems to be a problem, please notify us immediately and return the package with the original contents it contained so that we can quickly provide you with the correct package...."

[He glances at the crate again and then back at the cat in the tree. The cat lets out a loud hiss. He looks back to the crate.]

"How in the world am I suppose to get it back in the box?"

[Looks up at the cat as she approaches.]

"Detective Gumshoe? What are you doing...?"

[identity profile] derp-detective.livejournal.com 2010-04-18 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Gumshoe looks over to see Kay, a ball of yarn in hand.]

"Ah, Kay, hi! I'm, um, well, right now I'm trying to get this cat back in that box..."

[He motions to the nearby box that he has pushed closer to the tree.]

[identity profile] thief-of-truth.livejournal.com 2010-04-18 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[Peers up at the cat again.]

"It doesn't look too happy about it. Where'd you get a cat, anyway?"

[identity profile] derp-detective.livejournal.com 2010-04-18 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's some sort of mix-up. The papers in the box say it's suppose to be Missile, but when I opened it, there was this cat in there instead."

[Gumshoe holds out the papers that came with the box.]

"If I want to get this sorted out, I need to return the box with the cat in it first, it seems."

[identity profile] thief-of-truth.livejournal.com 2010-04-18 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wow... good luck with that. That cat doesn't look like it wants anything to do with you."

[Walks over to the tree, calling up to the cat.]

"What's wrong, little kitty? Come on down! Gummy and I won't hurt you!"

[identity profile] derp-detective.livejournal.com 2010-04-18 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know, it seems to hate me with a vengeance, but I swear I never did anything to it..."

[He sets the yarn down and takes a step back from the tree.]

"I hope getting the cat back to the delivery company is the only hard part."

[identity profile] thief-of-truth.livejournal.com 2010-04-18 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Can't you just call someone to come pick it up or something? I mean, they're the ones who made the mistake..."

[Kay approaches the tree, holding a hand out and making little clicking noises to try to get the cat's attention and calm it down.]

[identity profile] derp-detective.livejournal.com 2010-04-18 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, yeah, I'm sure I can get someone to come pick it up, but they still need to get the cat in the box, right? I mean, they'd probably ask us to help do that anyways, so might as well do that first so as to save time..."

[identity profile] thief-of-truth.livejournal.com 2010-04-18 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[Nods, still looking up at the cat.]

"Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere, kitty..."

[identity profile] derp-detective.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[Gumshoe is trying hard not to get the cat angry at him again so that maybe it will come down on its own]

"See? I'm no where near the yarn, pal, it's all yours..."

[identity profile] thief-of-truth.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[Kay backs up a little bit too, knocking the yarn slightly closer to the tree with her foot as she does so and just watching.]

[identity profile] derp-detective.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[The backing away seems to be working as the cat seems to be willing to try and climb down from the tree now. It's still staring daggers at Gumshoe occasionally though...]

"That's it.... Nice kitty...."

[identity profile] thief-of-truth.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah... that's it... good kitty..."

[Kay crouches down, looking at the cat as it nears the ball of yarn. Once it's finally on solid ground, it bats the yarn over to Kay. She pauses for a moment and picks it up, holding it out. With a nasty look to Gumshoe on the side, the cat slowly approaches Kay, flopping over onto its back and playing with the yarn once it's close enough.]

"Aw! I think it likes me!"

[identity profile] derp-detective.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, glad it likes someone then... Maybe now we can get it in the box."

[Gumshoe takes a step in Kay and the cat's direction, which causes the cat to immediately hiss at him. Slightly startled, Gumshoe steps back a bit and the cat goes back to playing with the yarn in Kay's hand.]

"....I think I'll just give the company a call and maybe get some towels or blankets or something for the box."

[identity profile] thief-of-truth.livejournal.com 2010-04-20 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, let's make up a little bed for it in the box. The company probably won't come back to pick it up until at least tomorrow anyway..."

[Kay smiles, teasing the cat with the yarn and playing. It frolics merrily, as long as Gumshoe stays away.]

[here's... a grown man that is currently in a teenage girl's body and living it up.]

Kitty~!

[identity profile] derp-detective.livejournal.com 2010-04-18 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, hey there, miss. Is that your cat? Did someone mail you a dog by accident then?"

[identity profile] b-as-a-criminal.livejournal.com 2010-04-18 07:37 pm (UTC)(link)

It's not mine, but it sure is cute! Anyway, wouldn't mailing a dog be considered... umm... animal cruelty?

[identity profile] derp-detective.livejournal.com 2010-04-18 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"What?! It is?! Well if I find out who did it, I'll make sure they taken to the police, pal!"

[identity profile] b-as-a-criminal.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 12:11 am (UTC)(link)

Ehehe! That's a great idea! It's their fault Mr. Kitty is so mad, after all.

[identity profile] derp-detective.livejournal.com 2010-04-19 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Good point, that's probably why the cat won't listen to me... Now how am I suppose to get it back in that box?"
